Lewisham residents invited to sign up to tour local housing site
The construction company behind a new 400-home development in Lewisham is encouraging local residents and students to come and take a sneak peek on site, as work continues apace to deliver more much-needed housing for the borough.
Bouygues UK is taking part in the national Open Doors Weekend initiative. The annual scheme was set up to demystify the work that goes on behind construction hoardings and help people to find out more about the industry that employs around 1 in 10 people here in the UK.
The mixed-use housing and retail development on Thurston Road, scheduled for completion later this year, will provide homes and retail space across two different tower blocks, ranging from between eight and fifteen storeys in height. The homes are being delivered on behalf of one of the capital’s largest housing associations, L&Q.
Bouygues UK’s Project Director for the Thurston Point development, Neil Pixsley, said: “On most of our schemes we run regular site tours for students at local schools; we take part in career days and we work with partners in our local supply chain to help people into training and employment – so we are doing our bit to help spread the message about the great variety of jobs and the prospects for long-term careers in the construction industry. But there’s nothing quite like coming on to site and seeing it all taking shape for yourself; seeing something that you used to walk past every day being transformed, in this case, into buildings that will provide new homes for hundreds of families in the borough.”
